Your Sensei

Keith McCubbin is a dedicated exponent of traditional martial arts and sees karate as a way of life rather than just a sport. He has chosen Goju ryu as a style well suited for the self defence needs of the modern day.
Keith, a 5th Dan with OGKK, maintains his knowledge and skills in traditional Goju karate through repeat visits to Okinawa to train with the Okinawa Gojuryu Karatedo Kyokai (OGKK) at the Kenshukan dojo in Naha under the guidance of Hirata and Takara Senseis and Teruya Shihan.

Keith is concerned about the "drift" that has taken place in modern karate away from the karate taught by the original masters. Keith believes that Japanese Goju Ryu, unlike Okinawan Goju Ryu has too great a focus on form rather than function. He sees the karate practiced by the OGKK as being closer to that of Master Miyagi than that of many other Goju groups, while still having an affiliation with the overarching JKF Gojukai.

Keith believes that to become a good karateka, you must take a holistic approach and develop the body, mind and spirit.

Tim McCubbin has been training in karate since he was six. Like his father, he is a keen exponent of Goju ryu. He also has made numerous trips to Okinawa to train with the senseis of the OGKK and has performed in a number of demonstrations and tournaments on the Island. He has been graded to 4th Dan by the OGKK and holds a 4th Dan ranking with the JKF Gojukai.
Tim has a good eye for technical detail, is meticulous in his approach to traditional karate and takes great pleasure in sharing his knowledge.
